CHAMPAIGN, IL – With its vast fields, Illinois has passed the “Agri-Fun Act,” which mandates that all farms over 50 acres must employ a full-time, certified Cornfield Maze Designer (CMD). The goal is to boost agritourism by creating incredibly complex, mathematically challenging, and seasonally-themed mazes.
This artistic and agricultural fusion has led to a boom in specialized employment. Over 10,000 seasonal and permanent roles are opening up, primarily for:
- Algorithm Harvester: Using GPS and coding to plot unsolvable pathways in the stalks.
- Mascot Escape Artist: Testing the mazes by navigating them while wearing a giant novelty corn costume.
- Post-Harvest Path Remediation Specialist: Operating tiny, autonomous tractors to clear the maze cleanly after the season ends.
The Chicago Board of Mazes (CBM) is now the primary licensing body. CMDs are expected to earn high wages due to the stress of designing a maze that is both fun and intellectually frustrating. The competition for the most confusing design is fierce!
